Feature Film Announcement: The Song That Brings Me Home

“The Song That Brings Me Home”, based on the novel “Ein Lied, das Heimat heißt” by Maggie Tong, published by Mentoren Media Verlag, is an upcoming independent feature film produced by Wintersgate Entertainment, directed by Tasja Cathrin Rosè and Maggie Tong.

The film tells the story of Ahmed, a Syrian musician navigating life in Germany, torn between the longing for his homeland and gratitude for his new home.

Between Two Worlds

Ahmed is not a conventional hero. He is a man with dreams, scars, and an unwavering love for music.

In Germany, he works hard, learns the language, and integrates into society, while carrying the melodies of Syria in his heart. With his Oud, he creates music that blends cultures — neither purely Syrian nor purely Western, but something entirely his own.

His journey is not without challenges. He faces prejudice, homesickness, and the struggle to support his family back home. Yet through music, Ahmed finds a voice that connects people across borders, turning personal hardship into shared emotion.

From Novel to Screen

Originally self-published under the title Sunrise, Maggie’s novel later found a publishing home and will now be released as “Ein Lied, das Heimat heißt” by Mentoren Media Verlag.

The film runs in parallel with this re-release, transforming the literary story into a cinematic experience.

The team presented early insights at the Frankfurt Book Fair, including interviews, short clips, and discussions with publishers and visitors. The story resonated strongly, confirming the film’s potential to move audiences.

Authentic, Powerful, Real

The Song That Brings Me Home is not just a story about migration — it is about people, their emotions, their struggles, and the music that carries them.

“We want to portray real human stories, not abstract ideas,” says Tasja Cathrin Rosè.

The film is scheduled for completion in 2026, with plans for international festival premieres before broader distribution in cinemas and on streaming platforms.
